Built on the gym floor: why Ashbourne runs its own club
Ashbourne owns and operates The Fit Club Redditch, giving its teams a live gym environment to test systems, train staff and stay close to the realities its partner clubs face.

Ashbourne occupies an unusual position in the UK fitness industry: we not only provide membership management services to gyms, we own and operate one ourselves.
The Fit Club Redditch is an independent gym close to our Birmingham head office. It gives our teams something no product roadmap, demonstration account or feedback form can replicate: a live environment where our systems meet members, staff and the daily pressures of running a fitness facility.
Before new developments reach our partner clubs, they can be tested inside The Fit Club. Features that appear effective on paper can behave differently when they become part of an operation, used by team members and relied upon every day. Testing them on the gym floor helps us identify weaknesses, refine the experience and understand how each change affects the wider business.
The value extends beyond software testing. Operating a gym keeps us close to the realities our customers face, from staffing and member expectations to retention, access control, administration and commercial performance. Every lesson learned at The Fit Club feeds into how Ashbourne develops its technology, support and advice.
It also shapes how our people understand the industry. Before joining Ashbourne's sales team, Dieter spent his first few months working as General Manager of The Fit Club. Rather than learning the platform through presentations and training accounts alone, he used it every day in a real gym environment — supporting members, overseeing daily operations, monitoring retention, reviewing reports and using the system to solve practical problems.
Now, when Dieter speaks with gym owners considering Ashbourne, those conversations are grounded in first-hand operational experience. He is not simply describing a list of functions; he understands the pressures behind the questions and can offer guidance based on situations he has encountered.
This reflects a principle Ashbourne has followed for nearly thirty years: useful solutions are built by staying connected to the people and environments they are designed to serve. Gym owners need more than software that performs well in a demonstration. They need systems that remain effective when the club is busy, staff are stretched and unexpected issues arise.
Owning and operating The Fit Club keeps us accountable to those realities. It gives our teams a place to test ideas, improve processes and better understand the impact of the decisions we make.
